Speaking Model 2

*The examiner will ask you to show your ID. Besides, the previous questions could be rephrased in different ways. In essence, they will request this information from you.

Can you spell your family name for me, please?
……………………………………………………………………………………….

Thank you. Where are you from?
……………………………………………………………………………………….

Part 1 (3 minutes)

Examiner: I’m going to ask you some questions about yourself and your ideas.

*The examiner can ask you from 3 to 5 questions depending on the length of your answer. Keep talking until they tell you to stop or calculate your answer to be around 30 seconds. The questions will not be displayed on the screen. You will not see the timer on the screen, so time management is intuitive.

Feelings: Do you think that keeping our emotions to ourselves is a good idea?
……………………………………………………………………………………….

Transport: Does your job involve a lot of commuting?
……………………………………………………………………………………….

Animals: What are the benefits of having pets when it comes to children?
…………………………………………………………………………………….

Part 2 (3 minutes)

Examiner: We are going to role-play some situations. I want you to start or respond.

*Approximately two turns each. Interact with the examiner and ask them questions.

1) I’m a waiter/waitress and you’re a customer. You would like to pay the bill but your credit card is not working. I start.

2) We’re friends. You thought you were going to be able to give me a helping hand, however you have changed your mind at the last minute. You start.

Part 3 (4 minutes)

Apparently, there are two ways in which you could be asked to do this task. The first one is to pick 3 bubbles and speak about them; the second one is to debate about some of the bubbles with the proctor, agreeing and disagreeing. Let’s practise both ways.

You have 20 seconds in which to look at this part and think about what to say.

Part 4 (5 minutes including follow-up questions)

Examiner: In Part Four you are going to talk about something for two minutes. Your topic is ‘tell me about a time when you bent over backwards’. You have 30 seconds to write some notes to help you.

*In Part Four you can have a piece of paper and a pencil to write. The examiner will ask you, at least, one follow-up question.

Speak for 2 minutes about a time when you bent over backwards.
……………………………………………………………………………………….

Follow-up question: Do you think sometimes we go too far to meet people’s expectations?
